Gathering Women's Stories

The primary focus of the GCW is the resurrection and celebration of women's wisdom around the globe. To accomplish this we are gathering and sharing women's intimate stories. Traveling around the world, crossing barriers of economy, age, religion and culture, the GCW will offer women everywhere the opportunity to share their own stories as well as being witnesses/gatherers of other women's deepest thoughts, experiences, dreams, hopes, grief and joy. Within a diverse range of settings the GCW moves women out of our isolation and silence and into a celebratory world-wide culture in which we have the opportunity to recognize and honor the power of our unified female voice.

Sharing Women's Stories

Through a unique and powerful format called Story Spirals, designed specifically for the GCW, women have an opportunity to experience the profound power of being witnesses and keepers of other women's stories; stories of women whom they will most likely never meet, but with whom they form a deeply fierce bond. Within Story Spirals women gather not to process but simply to share excerpts from other women's stories, to read another woman's story as if it were her own and to recognize the universal experience and power that is housed within all of us. Through speaking another woman's story we transcend labels, geographic distance and the isolation that comes from our own unspoken truth, to create a powerful bond which empowers us to acknowledge and speak from our deepest female wisdom. Through Story Spirals, the GCW interactive website, our magazine, film, interactive theatre, and more, we will weave a world-wide celebration of the truth of our female experience. We will breath life back into She; the creative force of system's-thinking, future-thinking interconnected life containing the power to transform humanity.

Celebrating Women's Culture and Voice

The GCW will also collect and celebrate women's music, dance and ritual from around the world. In events similar to our Story Circles, the GCWP will share these expressions of our female voice, offering women a chance to experience the rich and diverse heritage of women, the powerful birthright of every girl born on the planet.

A New Kind of Organization for a New Humanity

The GCW is a collective. It is not owned by any one woman. We do not imagine that we have any answers. In fact, we think answers won't get us anywhere worth going. We believe in asking questions and getting out of the way to enable your ideas and visions to become reality. We invite every woman, regardless of experience, to help co-create this project. From within this celebratory Global Culture of Women we will take action to create a world of balance and interdependence wherein all life is sacred.

Each woman who is drawn to participate in the GCW will be asked to contribute her own story and to sit as a story gatherer with at least one woman. This is her initiation into the power and importance of resurrecting our global female voice and wisdom. It is our vision that all women join the great female 'walk about'; pilgrimages of women all over the world to collect each other's truth, whether we gather our neighbors' and family members' stories or the stories of women living half-way around the world.

Why Stories?

In developing this project we asked several questions: "What will it take to bring women together, across cultural, age, religious and economic divisions, not to fight against anything but to celebrate what already is? What will it take to remind us that we are the keepers of vitally important wisdom? What will it take to empower all women to live lives of fearless commitment and intention?"

We know the change needed to navigate our human transformation is fundamentally an intimate spiritual shift. It will have to occur for each of us such a deep level that everything about the way we relate to ourselves, each other and the rest of the world is forever altered.

Within the activity of sharing our intimate stories lies an untapped power; the power of the universality of our intimate thoughts to transcend our isolation and silence, joining us together to bring about substantive and sustainable global change. As we speak and share our stories we are reminded of the universal wisdom stored deep within each of our unique experiences.

Being witnessed as we speak our intimate stories and witnessing and speaking other women's stories creates a global voice of women beautifully empowered to birth new human systems; from the ground up.

By witnessing and celebrating each other we are empowering fundamental transformation, planting and growing the seeds for a world in which all life is considered sacred.
